Words can be
Weapons, sharp, acid-tipped,
Striking precisely, penetrating deep
Into an anguished heart already scarred
By many former, similar attacks.
Emotional scars, more lasting and disabling
Than any physical, which in time will heal.
Will these then be the weapons
Which strike the final blow
To fossilize forever a ragged, ravaged heart?
Mechanically functional, but sensibly numb
It will feel pain no more,
Nor love.
